Ivonne Hamm

Ivonne Hamm is a registered nurse in the Electro Convulsive Therapy department at UConn Health Center, better known as shock therapy.

“We average eight patients a day,” says Ivonne. Her patients mainly suffer from mental illnesses that are resistant to drug therapy. “I’ve seen patients come in who were catatonic or unable to work and they leave here with the ability to function again.”

As part of the ECT team at UConn Health Center, Ivonne sees firsthand how this therapy is helping patients get their lives back. “I became a nurse because I want to help people and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

Connecticut needs Ivonne Hamm. She and her co-workers give patients a chance to regain control of their lives.
