An Open Letter to PreK-12 Teachers and School Support Personnel

All of you, our teachers, paraprofessionals and other school related personnel, are the heart and soul of our schools. You keep it running and endeavor to give your student exactly what he or she needs to be successful. You help your colleagues to be successful. YOU are very important. YOU are molding America’s future, one child at a time.

During American Education Week, we should celebrate everyone who supports our children and makes a quality public education possible. This includes everyone from the bus driver who brings them back and forth to school, to the lunchroom workers who feed them, to the paraprofessionals, to the substitute teachers, to the classroom teachers and everyone in between. Thank you for your commitment to our students’ success.

It has never been easy to be in this field of education, and it seems like it has gotten harder of late. There is so much to do – and not enough hours in the day.

It seems like fingers are being pointed and blame being assigned to educators for just about everything. It could make you want to turn around and run.

Thank you for not running away from the challenge. Thank you for devoting your career to making a difference in the life of the children you work with. Thank you for being there for your colleagues. Thank you for sticking with it, and for not giving up.

Thank you.
