Bristol School Board, Teachers Union Reach Settlement on New Collective Bargaining Agreement

Changes to the healthcare plan and the increases in premium cost share are expected to generate a total net savings to the BOE of 9.37%, or $2,871,224.00, over the next three years. The total net cost for the contract, effective July 1, 2015, is 3.46%, or an average of 1.15% a year.

“This agreement is a win-win for both parties,” said Bristol BOE Chairman Larry Amara. “I am very pleased with the significant healthcare savings of over two million dollars that this settlement will provide to the taxpayers of Bristol.”

“We reached a settlement that is good for teachers, our schools, and our city,” said Edgewood School teacher and BFT, AFT Local 1464 President David Hayes. “Local taxpayers will realize savings, and teachers whose salaries were frozen during the last contract will make fair gains — which they’ll spend in our local economy.”

Conditions include annual salary increases for teachers of 3% each year, including salary step increases in the first and third years of the agreement. The contract also includes a revised Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) healthcare plan with increases in employees’ annual premium cost share to 18%, 19%, and 20% over the term of the agreement.
