Comments on Creation of Task Force with Classroom Educators to Review Common Core

“We are grateful that the governor, through a well-thought out executive order, has implemented the Common Core task force, giving stakeholders a seat at the table for dialogue and problem-solving. That is what is needed to ensure best practices and effective implementation in all our state’s schools.

“We congratulate the six members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions on their appointment to serve on the panel:
  • Co-Chair Erin Wilson, Hartford Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 1018
  • William McKinney, New Haven Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 933
  • Patti Fusco, West Haven Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 1547
  • Susan Schmidt, New Britain Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 871
  • Sue Loud, CT State Vocational Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 4200-A
  • Barbara Johnson, Colchester Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 1827
The Educators’ Common Core Implementation Taskforce is a validation of the voices of teachers, which have been united in calling for a course correction for the Common Core. We applaud the governor for creating an efficient approach that includes educator input to relieve the strain of transitioning to new standards in their classrooms.”
