PreK-12/PSRP “What Kids Need” Advocacy Training Session
Members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated local unions and chapters representing PreK-12 teachers and paraprofessionals and school-related personnel (PSRP) are invited to this legislative and community advocacy training. This inaugural session will explore real-world challenges facing teachers and paraeducators, while providing participants tools and strategies to lobby for and secure the resources students deserve.
The purpose is to move from frustration to action, building solutions that can make a difference in classrooms, schools and districts. The workshop will address:
- The biggest barriers to student achievement—and how resource gaps play a role;
- Classroom, school, and district-level strategies to assess needs and build solutions;
- Real examples of how educators are finding success in securing resources;
- SMART goal planning and group strategy sessions to turn ideas into action; &
- How to work as a team to influence policy, practice and resource distribution.
Presented by Hartford teachers union leader Stuart Beckford.
