Paraprofessionals like Christine Smith in Hartford provide students with one-on-one instruction every day.
“Paraprofessionals provide one-on-one assistance for students with Individualized Education Plans that helps them to succeed,” says Christine. “We also provide support for all of the students in the classroom.”
Christine has been working as a paraprofessional in Hartford for many years in many different schools. “I love working with the kids. Helping them to grow and succeed is so rewarding.”
Unfortunately, when economic times are tough, paraprofessionals are often the first ones to be cut.
“We can’t afford to cut adult support for our students” says Christine. “The work we do with all of the students, but especially the special needs students, is critical to their education.”
