New Leadership for the State’s Education Agency: Update

The commissioner’s decision to step down after three years at the helm of Connecticut’s education department was announced in August by the Malloy-Wyman Administration.

Click here for the update we sent at the time to members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated PreK-12 and PSRP unions. The update also included a public statement from AFT Connecticut President Melodie Peters.

The SBOE is expected at its January 7 regular meeting to appoint an interim commissioner to serve until the Malloy-Wyman Administration nominates and the legislature confirms a permanent replacement.

AFT Connecticut leadership looks forward to working with the agency’s interim chief, the SBOE and the Malloy-Wyman Administration to address the immediate challenges facing our public schools. We anticipate our collaborative partnership will continue on behalf of our member educators and their students through the transition to new leadership for SDE.
