State Capitol Vigil for “Windham’s Mothers & Babies”
The Windham United to Save our Healthcare (WUSH) coalition, which includes AFT Connecticut, organized this event to mark the two-year anniversary of regulatory inaction on shuttered labor and delivery services. In late 2021, the state health department’s Office of Health Care Access (OHCA) held a public hearing on Hartford HealthCare (HHC)’s unlawful closure of Windham Community Memorial Hospital (WCMH)’s maternity unit. To date, those services remain closed despite regulators finding health executives terminated care in violation of state statutes.
Advocates, caregivers, residents and recipients of services to weigh-in are encouraged to participate and show the community’s resolve in restoring these vital services for the Windham region’s mothers and babies.
Free bus transportation to be provided at 4:30PM from Jillison Square in Willimantic; seating is limited on first come, first serve basis.
