“Invest in Public Higher Ed” Lobby Day

This action is being organized by the coalition of labor unions representing state employees, including AFT Connecticut and affiliated locals of higher education professionals. The purpose is to take further steps in a coordinated legislative action plan designed to resist service cuts and staff layoffs included in the latest biennial budget package.

Agenda includes brief one-on-one meetings for members and their elected representatives in the Connecticut General Assembly. The focus is on urging lawmakers to restore public higher education funding in the 2024 legislative session for the Connecticut State Universities & Colleges (CSCU) and University of Connecticut (UConn) systems.

AFT Connecticut’s legislative advocates will be on hand to help identify elected representatives. Members are gathering in the LOB rotunda – the area right after the metal detectors.

Members are also encouraged to wear their union tee-shirts and bring at least two colleagues to help share stories of the harm caused by cuts and layoffs.
