Higher Ed Night at the Capitol
Members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated union members are invited to join the professors, faculty and staff in the state’s public higher education institutions in protecting their students’ learning opportunities. The purpose is to stop the significant budget cuts coming to the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities (CSCU) and expected for the University of Connecticut (UConn) in 2024 and 2025.
To send a strong, unified message to the governor and legislative leaders, members are urged to bring at least one colleague and, if applicable, student with them. Pizza will be available beginning at 5:30 pm in the LOB cafeteria, followed by a “rally.” At 7:30 pm, members and advocates attend the hearing on the impact of cuts to CSCU and UConn students and faculty held by the legislature’s budget-writing committee.
The events are organized by our affiliated Federation of Technical College Teachers, University Health Professionals (UHP), UConn Professional Employees Association (UCPEA), CSU-AAUP, UConn-AAUP, UCHC-AAUP as well as the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC).
