AFT Connecticut’s Constitution & Bylaws empowers each of the Executive Committee’s divisional vice presidents with heading their respective constituency’s council in order to recommend and adopt relevant internal and public policies. Delegates from applicable local unions, who are generally recommended to serve by their president, meet at least quarterly. Each council’s chair is required to provide regular reports to the Executive Committee, as well as a single annual summary to business convention attendees.
Additionally, AFT Connecticut’s president is responsible for recommending leaders for each of several standing committees established under the state federation’s constitution. Once approved by the Executive Committee, chairs are charged with ensuring their governance responsibilities and duties are met and carried out in a productive, supportive environment.
Regular meetings – scheduled by each committee’s chair or a majority vote of their current membership – are opportunities for sharing relevant resources, information, opportunities, and best practices. Additionally, annual reports are required to be submitted to the AFT Connecticut business convention.
