Shawn was elected secretary-treasurer in 2023 and serves as AFT Connecticut’s chief fiscal officer, responsible for the safekeeping and accounting of funds and financial obligations, including the annual audit.

Shawn was elected first vice president for our affiliated University Health Professionals (UHP) in 2022, where he has held various leadership roles for more than a decade. He has served as a worksite steward, been a member of the local union’s representative assembly, and chaired their negotiations and social committees as well as their scholarship subcommittee. Shawn has also been an active member of the finance committee. 

Beyond his local service, Shawn has been active in the state’s labor movement as well. He has regularly been elected as a UHP delegate and participated in AFT Connecticut, AFT national and Connecticut AFL-CIO conventions.

Since 2007, Shawn has worked at UConn Health, most recently as an administrative fiscal assistant in the Clinical Research Center at the main campus in Farmington. There he was actively engaged in UHP’s efforts to successfully block schemes to privatize the state’s only public acute care hospital, leading medical research facility and flagship health teaching institution.

Shawn resides in New Britain.
