Comments on Resignation of Connecticut Education Department Chief

“On today’s news that State Department of Education (SDE) Commissioner Stefan Pryor will end his tenure at the agency’s helm, we offer him our best wishes. While we have had policy disagreements over the past three years, we have never questioned his personal commitment to fulfilling the department’s mission. His core belief that all learners deserve an opportunity for a quality education has never been in doubt.

“Working with a diverse coalition of educators and administrators, over the past year we have collaborated with the Malloy-Wyman Administration to make significant improvements to our state’s schools. As the previous school year came to a close, the changes began providing real relief to teachers and school support personnel in classrooms across Connecticut. For the sake of all our state’s students and their families, that progress must continue.

“We look forward to maintaining this partnership through the SDE’s transition period — and beyond once new leadership is appointed to the department. Reclaiming the promise of a quality public education for all our state’s children and their families demands that we work together.”
