Comments on L+M Hospital Union Leader Appointed to African-American Affairs Commission

“We applaud the State House of Representatives minority leader for selecting Stephanie Johnson to serve on the African-American Affairs Commission. Representative Cafero has appointed a trusted labor leader and committed civil rights activist who is deeply engaged in the issues impacting the greater New London region.

“I have seen firsthand Stephanie’s passion for her community, and I have no doubt she will make a significant contribution to the mission of the commission.

“Recently, Stephanie helped spearhead successful efforts to adopt positive, proactive affirmative action language into her local union’s collective bargaining agreement. The result is a collaborative approach to ensuring the workforce at Lawrence + Memorial (L+M) Hospital in New London accurately reflects the diversity of the region it serves.

“We congratulate Stephanie on her appointment and look forward to her service on the African-American Affairs Commission throughout her two-year term.”
