Comments on Governor Malloy’s Proposed Tax Cuts for Retired Teachers

“We applaud the governor for taking this long-overdue step.

“His plan first and foremost recognizes the value of a secure retirement for all workers. The governor’s proposal also begins to reverse long-standing inequity that has unfairly impacted teachers.

“It also has the potential to put an extra several hundred — and perhaps as much as 1,500 — dollars per year in retirees’ pockets, which they’ll spend in the local economy. That’s why this plan is good not just for retired teachers, it’s good for all in Connecticut.

“We thank the governor for recognizing those who have served our communities educating our children.”
