Comments on Malloy-Wyman Admin. Efforts to
Lessen Students’ Testing Burden

“We applaud the Malloy-Wyman Administration for beginning what we hope is a process to carefully look at the over-reliance on standardized testing in our state’s public schools. We have long argued that ‘teaching to the test’ risks killing the love of learning for students and stifling the joy of the profession for educators.

“By engaging the federal education department in a dialogue on such an important policy issue, the governor has again demonstrated he is listening to the voices of classroom teachers.

“We look forward to participating in the efforts of the working group that the Malloy-Wyman Administration has outlined as next steps. Just as with the Educator’s Common Core Implementation Taskforce they created earlier this year, we expect it will provide a real opportunity for meaningful and productive collaboration.”
