AFT Connecticut is the largest union of acute care hospital workers in the state, representing approximately 10,000 nurses and allied health professionals. Our labor federation’s members work in more than 20 hospitals, community clinics and school district and college-based settings. From securing strong contracts to establishing safe staffing requirements, our members advocate for improved conditions for all healthcare workers as well as career education, relevant training and professional development.

Danbury Nurses Fight for Safe Staffing

Danbury - Members of the Danbury Nurses Union, Unit 47, AFT, today overwhelmingly rejected Danbury Hospital’s  demand that nurses take major concessions in advance of upcoming negotiations with the Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN).

Living United

The Backus Federation of Nurses Local 5149 held their third food drive to benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center in Southeastern Connecticut on March 9 bringing in 1,729 pounds of food.

New Affiliations Strengthen AFT Healthcare Constituency

In the past month three nursing groups have voted to affiliate with AFT making our union the third largest representative of nurses in the nation.
