AFT Connecticut is the largest union of acute care hospital workers in the state, representing approximately 10,000 nurses and allied health professionals. Our labor federation’s members work in more than 20 hospitals, community clinics and school district and college-based settings. From securing strong contracts to establishing safe staffing requirements, our members advocate for improved conditions for all healthcare workers as well as career education, relevant training and professional development.

AFT Connecticut Wins National AFT Prize for Solution-Driven Unionism

Rocky Hill - The American Federation of Teachers’ Connecticut affiliate has won the national union’s inaugural Prize for Solution-Driven Unionism for its work in protecting the jobs and benefits of state workers, while saving the state a projected $1.6 billion, AFT President Randi Weingarten announced today.
 

"I Am L+M" Campaign Unites L&M Hospital Workforce with Community for Patient Care

New London - Nurses, technicians and healthcare workers at Lawrence & Memorial (L&M) Hospital yesterday launched a public awareness campaign to hold accountable the corporation that manages the community’s acute care facility. Hospital workers were joined by activists from regional and statewide community organizations as well as elected officials to announce the "I Am L+M" citizen education and engagement effort.

Mashantucket - Nurses, caregivers, and healthcare workers applaud leaders of the unions in the Connecticut AFL-CIO for acting to combat unfair and irresponsible tactics by health management corporations in the state. Delegates to the biennial convention of the state’s largest labor federation yesterday adopted a resolution that seeks to address critical issues faced by Connecticut hospital workers and the patients they serve. 
 

Home Health Aides Unite to Preserve "Heart" and "Compassion" in Patient Care for Southeastern CT

Rocky Hill - Home health aides who serve patients of the Visiting Nurses Association of Southeastern Connecticut (VNASC) have informed their employer of their choice to unite for a voice on the job. The caregivers on September 13 requested voluntary recognition from the VNASC, a subsidiary of L&M Corporation (LMC), after a majority of the workforce signed a petition to form a union.
