AFT Connecticut represents thousands of school-related personnel (PSRP) in local and regional districts across the state. PSRPs work as paraprofessionals, teaching assistants, tutors, secretaries, school nurses, custodians and others who provide critical services that support student learning. From contract negotiations to professional development, AFT Connecticut works to secure the pay, benefits, conditions and respect they deserve as both professionals and “the engine that keeps their schools running.”

AFT President Randi Weingarten Takes Back-to-School Tour to Connecticut

Washington - American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten will continue her national back-to-school tour Friday in Meriden and New Haven. During her swing through Connecticut, Weingarten will meet with teachers and students and highlight the collaborative efforts in the two cities as a model for reform.
 
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy is expected to accompany Weingarten as she visits schools and talks with educators.
 

This Labor Day, Take the Pledge to Stand with Working People

The very first Labor Day was created to acknowledge and honor working people who aspired to the American dream and fought for a better life for themselves and their families. Together, each and every day, we build on the work they began decades ago. 
 
As a union that is 1.6 million members strong, we are immensely proud of who we are, and we thank our members for the work they do.
