The Connecticut chapter of the Poor People's Campaign (PPC) is organizing local activities in coordination with the national campaign’s "40 Days of Moral Action." The effort draws on the history, vision and unfinished work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Poor People's Campaign" launched 50 years ago. Each activity will feature highly publicized, non-violent moral fusion direct action, over a 6-week period, in order to shift the nation's current distorted moral narrative.
AFT Connecticut's delegate assembly and executive committee at their joint April, 2018 meeting voted to support the campaign and mobilize members of affiliated local unions to participate. Public education professionals and school support staff, higher education faculty, nurse and caregivers, and state employees are invited and encouraged to be part of these community engagement efforts.
Those wishing to participate are asked to RSVP directly to AFT Connecticut staff (contact info below) for further details and to schedule pre-event civil disobedience training.
Members wishing to observe and show solidarity at the event are asked to arrive at the Connecticut Veterans Memorial at Minuteman Park, across the street from the Legislative Office Building (LOB), beginning at 3:00PM.
