Securing 'Hero Pay' for Unprecedented Service

The global COVID-19 pandemic is undoubtedly the greatest collective challenge our union members have faced in their lifetimes. Securing adequate compensation for the risks taken by frontline "essential" workers has been a daunting and often frustrating challenge. Our latest collective bargaining report highlights how public employee members tapped the power of "Union YES" to move a neutral arbitrator and state lawmakers to show appreciation for their sacrifice.

Realizing Historic Wins to Secure a "Better Future"

Lawmakers in late April approved significant investments in the state workforce, capping union members' efforts aimed at successor contracts. Our latest quarterly collective bargaining report showcases seven affiliated public employee locals and their wider coalition's landmark achievement - their first such agreements without concessions in more than a decade. Together they demonstrated how a seat at the table yields much more than pay raises and better conditions.

Bargaining to "Make Real Gains" for Members

The negotiating table has since mid January seen a frenzy of activity and produced results for AFT Connecticut-affiliated local unions. Six new contracts were ratified, three memoranda of understanding were reached and two arbitration awards were won in the first quarter of 2019. Each exemplifies the advantage of an active and engaged membership, and we're spotlighting two featuring important milestones for their locals and our movement.
