"No Going Back to Normal" in 2021

When I accepted a Connecticut People’s World Committee "Amistad Award" last month, I began my remarks by recognizing our members. They are the ones who are out there fighting the good fights and making — as Congressman John Lewis would have said — "good trouble." I credited our educators and school support staff, nurses and healthcare workers, higher education professionals and public employees who have done amazing things over this past year.
 

"Fast Track:" Bad for Our Economy

The so-called "Fast Track" bill on trade promotion authority introduced last week in the U.S. Senate will hurt everyday working people and stack the deck in favor of corporations. The legislation threatens to limit the ability of labor unions, environmental advocates, and all Americans to have meaningful input on our nation’s trade policy.

Turning Up the Heat to "Reclaim the Planet"

The sense of doom that motivated an estimated 310,000 people to converge on the Upper West Side of New York City on Sunday for the People's Climate March did not dampen their hope and optimism for a vision of a green future. Swelling the crowd were hundreds of AFT members and thousands of trade unionists from the more than 70 labor organizations that were co-sponsors of the day's events.
