Connecticut has more than 3,000 crime scene investigations every year, and medicolegal death investigator Alfredo Camargo does that and more each day.

“The hardest part of our job is also the most rewarding,” says Camargo. “Knowing that we are sometimes the only person who can tell a family how their loved one died. We’re the only one getting that answer for them.”

Alfredo and the other investigators in the office of the chief medical examiner look into more than 10,000 deaths every year.

“There are only fifteen of us to cover the entire state,” says Camargo.

State employees like Alfredo Camargo are essential to Connecticut’s public safety.
