Clinton Initiative Praises Union Pension Investments

Our AFT national president last week had a unique opportunity to share the positive impact that union pension fund investments are having on rebuilding the nation's infrastructure at the winter meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). There she also discussed the AFT's work in areas such as career and technical education (CTE) and rewriting the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).

Anthem Insurance Security Breach

A massive cyber attack of health insurance plan provider Anthem reported last week has the potential to impact nearly 200,000 active and retired state employees and their families. According to the company, hackers obtained access to personal information from current and former customers such as names, birthdays, medical IDs, social security numbers, street and email addresses, as well as employment and income data.

Vice-President Speaks at First Summit on Career and Technical Education

Career and technical education and workforce development create multiple pathways to high school and higher education graduation, real-world job skills and economic prosperity, speakers including Vice President Joe Biden said yesterday at the first Career and Technical Education/Workforce Development Summit. The event was co-hosted by the The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the AFL-CIO, the umbrella federation for U.S. unions.

AFT's Three-Point Strategy on Ebola Preparedness

AFT President Randi Weingarten and nurse activists and leaders from across the country today gathered to highlight the need to involve nurses and health professionals in developing and implementing plans to respond to the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). AFT Nurses and Health Professionals are calling on hospitals around the nation do more to protect and train their staffs, after two nurses caring for the Ebola patient in Texas contracted the deadly virus.
