Benefits to Tackle the High Cost of Higher Ed

Our national union helps members and their families with grants to support professional development, achieve a post-secondary education or participate in graduate-level learning. When the Robert G. Porter Scholars Program winners were last July announced at the 2016 AFT Convention, a local teacher from Connecticut was among those honored. She was awarded $1,000.00 to assist with her continuing education —  and now encourages her colleagues to apply by the March 31 deadline for this year's benefit.
 

Organizing to Ensure "True Teacher Leadership Can Emerge"

Members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions earlier this month joined fellow educators and administrators from 18 other states in Washington, D.C. for the first-ever National Summit on Teacher Leadership. The two-day event brought union leaders and policymakers together to discuss the steps needed to promote the further development of classroom educators in public schools across the country.

Bristol School Board, Teachers Union Reach Settlement on New Collective Bargaining Agreement

Bristol - Members of the Bristol Board of Education (BOE) and the Bristol Federation of Teachers (BFT) on Saturday concluded a three-year arbitrated contract settlement. Collective bargaining negotiations began in late-August and with no agreement reached by mid-November, the parties entered into binding arbitration.
