As the dairy unit manager at UConn, Mary Margaret Cole helps students oversee 210 dairy cows and milk them three times a day.

She got her Bachelor’s in Animal Science at UConn and came back to teach dairy management.  “It’s rewarding to see the kids take what they learned in the classroom and put it into practice here,” says Mary Margaret.

Much of the milk gets processed into ice cream, cheese and yogurt and is sold on campus and around the state.

Mary Margaret is also a 4H leader. “We do several workshops here for students from around New England,” says Mary Margaret. “We show students what UConn has to offer.”

Connecticut needs Mary Margaret. We are asking legislators to find the revenue needed to keep Mary Margaret and other state employees doing work that matters.
