Kathleen McGirr grew up around welding because of her dad’s business. She went on to follow in her father’s footsteps and has worked as a welding instructor at Cheney Technical High School for 24 years.

“We show students the numerous job opportunities there are for welders,” says Kathleen. “Without welders there would be no buildings and our students are building our state.”

Kathleen teaches students the different types of welding so that they will more marketable. “Our program provides students with hands on production in the real world,” says Kathleen. “They come out of our school gaining jobs that pay good wages and benefits.”

Only two schools teach welding in Connecticut and we need Kathleen McGirr and state employees like her to continue doing work that matters.
