Jean was elected as an AFT Connecticut officer in 2013 shortly after she retired following 27 years of service at the University of Connecticut (UConn) Health Center in Farmington. Her title was previously second vice-president and changed following adoption of proposed new Constitution & Bylaws language at the 2015 convention where she was re-elected.
Jean previously served as the long time president of University Health Professionals (UHP), AFT Local 3837, representing the caregivers at the state's only public acute care facility. Jean serves on a number of AFT Connecticut committees that address issues for its healthcare and public employee members, and represents the federation on the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC). Additionally Jean serves on the national union’s Program and Policy Council (PPC) for nurses and healthcare professionals.
Recently Jean was appointed to the Connecticut Health Advancement and Research Trust (CHART), the parent organization of the Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut. She also serves on the State Contracting Standards Board which she was appointed to by Governor Dannel P. Malloy.
In addition to her advocacy for the labor movement, Jean has long been involved in the civic and political life of her community. She presently serves on the Democratic Town Committee (DTC) for the town of West Hartford, where she resides.
