When you get into an elevator you probably don’t think about whether its safety features are working properly. Donald Richey does. As an elevator inspector for the Department of Public Safety Donald and the other 13 inspectors make sure they are safe.

“Often we have to shutdown and elevator because it isn’t safe,” says Donald. “It could be in an office building or a hospital. The location doesn’t matter. What matters is making sure no one will get hurt.”

Making sure the 15,000 elevators in our state are safe is a tough job and will only get tougher if their budget is cut.

Connecticut needs Donald Richey. He and his co-workers keep us safe. We need to keep Donald and other state employees doing the work that matters for Connecticut’s people.
