CT Students for a Dream Educators Conference on Undocumented Youth

Fri, 12/08/2017 - 8:00am - 4:00pm
Connecticut Students for a Dream (C4D) has invited members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions to attend their 4th annual conference bringing together educators from around the state to discuss how to move towards education equity for undocumented students. The goal of the event is to lay a foundation for creating supportive school, college, university, and state policies and practices despite the uncertainty facing immigrant youth today.
Overall conference goals:
1.) Connect the broader context of the barriers and systemic injustices that undocumented students face to individual undocumented students in schools and classrooms;
2.) Build a network of educators that is more connected to C4D and to each other and that can be activated to advocate and support undocumented youth;
3.) Support educators in increasing their confidence in working with undocumented students through providing tools educators can use and conversations on how to use those tools;
4.) Walk away with actionable, tangible next steps that can be implemented at a school level and a plan for follow up from C4D; &
5.) Provide attendees with spaces to see the power of the undocumented movement and ways that they can get engaged in advocacy work (school, local, state).
Breakfast with coffee in the morning and lunch will be provided.
Note - professional development credit may be available for members attending the event; inquiries should be referred to employers' professional learning and/or administrative staff.
