CT Students for a Dream "Building Unafraid Schools & Communities" Conference

Date:
Mon, 05/20/2019 - 8:00am - 4:00pm
AFT Connecticut is once again co-sponsoring this annual conference bringing together advocates from around the state to discuss how to move towards education equity for undocumented students. Connecticut Students for a Dream (C4D) is bringing together high school and college educators, administrators, community organization staff and others from across the state — and affiliated union members are invited.

Goals of the event include developing an action plan with a breakdown of steps educators can take to destigmatize status at their school and build a supportive environment.

Agenda includes:
  1. Feedback session around the institutional aid process;
  2. Sessions led by the Boston Teachers Union (BTU) around building an "Unafraid Educator" network; &
  3. Sessions on trauma, mental health, deportations, and other outside forces that students are dealing with beyond school walls.
Breakfast with coffee in the morning and lunch will be provided.

Note - professional development credit may be available for members attending the event; inquiries should be referred to employers' professional learning and/or administrative staff.
