AFT Center for School Improvement (CSI) Leadership Institute

Thu, 01/23/2020 - 8:00am - Sat, 01/25/2020 - 12:15pm
This annual conference for members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions representing PreK-12 and PSRP members brings together educators, district leaders, community partners, as well as student and parent leaders. The theme of CSI 2020 is "Transforming Systems to Be Culturally Responsive," and participating teams will:
  • strengthen their collective leadership capacity;
  • learn how to lead and facilitate school transformation that results in improved student performance and improved teaching and learning environments;
  • dig deeper into their local data; and
  • leave with an action plan that incorporates collaborative team processes to advance a culturally responsive approach to pedagogy.
CSI 2020 will also offer individual team members an opportunity to begin deep learning before CSI officially kicks off. Members can select from two 3.5 hour sessions on either Restorative Practices or Trauma-Informed Practices.
The professional development event is coordinated by:
  • AFT;
  • New York State United Teachers (NYSUT);
  • Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals (RIFTHP);
  • United Federation of Teachers (UFT);
  • The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) Foundation;
  • The Coalition for Community Schools;
  • The Schlechty Center; and
  • The Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL).
